Open Educational Resources

Open Educational Resources are educational materials that are free and open for anyone to use. This guide is for faculty, staff, and students interested in learning more about how to incorporate OER into their teaching and learning.

General OER Repositories & Tools

Open educational resources are academic materials that may be used, shared, and adapted freely. OER include lesson plans, video tutorials, tests, textbook chapters, and even entire courses.

Although all of the materials listed below are free, the licensing--and the degree of openness--varies. Some are copyrighted but free; others are licensed under Creative Commons; and others are in the public domain. To be true OER, materials must be free to access AND users must have the ability to retain, reuse, revise, remix, and redistribute the content. Check the licensing before you revise, remix, and redistribute. If you have any questions about how you're able to use any of these materials, get in touch with the library.
