Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon

Welcome!

Why Edit Wikipedia?

  • Wikipedia contains more than 1.5 million biographies about notable writers, inventors, and academics. Less than 19 percent of those are about women.
  • Studies have shown that women disproportionately have their Wikipedia bios nominated for deletion, posing significant hurdles for closing the gender gap. For example, Donna Strickland, scientist, invented a notable technology used by all high-powered lasers in the world. Her Wikipedia bio was flagged for "speedy deletion." Four years later, when she won the Nobel Prize, she didn't have a Wikipedia page.

Art+Feminism is a global initiative addressing the gender gap on Wikipedia by improving content on cis and trans women, gender non-binary people, the arts, and feminism. Editing on Wikipedia is an opportunity to increase the knowledge and discoverability of underrepresented communities.
