Annotated Bibliography

Use this guide to research and write an annotated bibliography.

Writing Annotations

Now that you've evaluated each source, you're ready to write your annotations. Remember, the annotation for each source should be a paragraph in which you:

  • Summarize the source.
  • Evaluate the source.
  • Connect the source to your research question.

Sample Annotated Bibliography Entries

The format of an annotated bibliography can vary, so it's important to ask your instructor for specific guidelines. The citation should follow the format indicated by your instructor (APAMLAChicago/Turabian, etc.). Annotations are written in paragraph form directly under the citation for each source.
