ORCiD stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID, a unique number that serves as a researcher's persistent identifier and reduces name ambiguity in scholarly publications, grant applications, and websites. Unlike ResearchGate or Academia.edu, ORCiD is a non-profit organization that works to improve transparency and authority in research.
Registration takes about 30 seconds.
After you have your unique iD, you can add your educational history and institutional affiliations. For more information, check out Six Things to Do Now You’ve Got an ORCID iD.
Copyright provides the default rules regarding the ownership and use—copying, distribution, and preparation of derivative works—of creative works. The typical publication process involves the transfer of copyright ownership from the author to the publisher, at least temporarily. As an author, you can negotiate publication agreements that allow you to retain control of how you and others may use your work in future, even when you publish in traditional journals.
