Often, new researchers will put some search terms into a library database, and the results will be unrelated to what they're really looking for. This can often lead students to think that there's nothing out there on their topic.
Sometimes it just takes persistence and a strong search strategy. Though there are several opening gambits we want all first year students to know, finding relevant and accessible research can take creativity and grit.
