Congratulations--you're teaching a First Year Seminar! In addition to helping students juggle a busy schedule, build a new community, and navigate the many offices on campus, you'll be guiding your students through college-level research for the first time. This guide is designed to support your teaching toward the Research Skills assignment, which assesses one of the two learning outcomes for FYS.
Each section of this guide is aligned to a part of that FYS learning outcome and uses the vocabulary librarians use in the research and information literacy sessions we teach. You'll also find resources to help you develop assignments and in-class activities to facilitate conversations about research and information literacy.
